Diana Casey is a Ph.D. Candidate in Developmental Psychology. Her educational credentials also includes a Master's Degree in Counseling and Education. Ms. Casey is a trained and certified clinical traumatologist as well. In addition, she possesses a background as a criminologist, having researched criminogenic trends for the Virginia Department of Corrections, where she instructed courses as an Adjunct Trainer with the Virginia Academy for Staff Development for over a decade.
Ms. Casey remains an active member of the American Counseling Association and the National Association of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapists. Ms. Casey is a Certified Victim Advocate through NACP, the National Advocate Credentialing Program, as well as the Department of Defense (SAPR), Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program. Additionally, she is a certified Suicide Prevention Trainer through the QPR Institute, Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Trainer, REVIVE Opioid Overdose Response Trainer, and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Trainer.
She is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Career:
Ms. Casey has served as a subject matter expert on various topics from mental health interventions, suicide and opioid prevention approaches, to ethics, conflict resolution, and emerging criminogenic trends. As such, she has represented various agencies to include local government agencies and the Department of Health and Human Services, in televised interviews with local and national media. Her career through the years includes experience as the supervisor of the Behavioral Health and Wellness Team , Program Manager with the Department of Health and Human Services, as well as Program Coordinator of residential treatment programs.
Her career background includes being employed as the supervisor of the Behavioral Health and Wellness Prevention Team for a local government agency. In this capacity she was responsible for planning, scheduling' and supervising a team of Therapist II's as well as facilitating Prevention and Risk Reduction initiatives on suicide prevention, substance abuse prevention, mental health awareness and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES). Prior to the aforementioned position and while with the same agency, Ms. Casey provided counseling and therapeutic services as a Therapist II on the substance abuse treatment team. She transitioned to the Therapist II position after experience as a Social Worker II with Child Protective Services.
Before her career with the Behavioral Health team, Ms. Casey enjoyed her occupation as a Family Court Mediator with Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for several years. She was awarded her credential as a Court Mediator through the Supreme Court of Virginia. In addition to facilitating conversations between disputing parties, Ms. Casey has also served as a law enforcement officer/officer of the Courts, to Prince William, Fairfax and Arlington Counties. While serving in this role, Ms. Casey submitted and prepared numerous biopsychosocial reports and investigations to the Courts to include Home Study/Investigation Reports.
Overall, Ms. Casey's community counseling background consists of counseling in the areas of mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, family counseling, acute trauma, and rehabilitation. She is versed in the nuances of Child Protective Services and Foster Care as well, having provided evidence-based, trauma informed services to numerous families through the years. In addition, to assessing suitability for custody on behalf of the Courts and teaching parenting skills, Ms. Casey also served as a therapeutic visitation supervisor for local child welfare agencies.
Lastly, Ms. Casey is the spouse of licensed attorney and retired United States Army officer. Thus, she understands the sacrifices made by military families as both a military spouse and former DoD employee.
